Tom Dillmann to replace Maro Engel in the ePrix Paris

In the sixth round of the Formula E Championship, held in Paris on 20th May, Frenchman Tom Dillmann will replace Venturi regular Maro Engel. The 31-year old who also races in DTM as Mercedes-AMG driver can’t contest the race in the French capital due to a scheduling conflict.

“I’m delighted with having the chance of contesting the race in France as Venturi`s reserve driver,” said Dillmann who is representing the Monaco based team colours for the second time after already having represented the squad in the innovative E-series’ round in Mexico, in early May. In that race meeting he replaced Stephane Sarrazin in the so-called shakedown on Friday. “Formula E is an exciting place to be for a driver – with thrilling motor racing and interesting technical developments. It goes without saying that it’s my goal to contest a full season in this series, in the future,” added the reigning Formula V8 3.5 Champion. Other highlights in his career to date were the title in the German Formula 3 series in 2010 and race wins in the GP2 Series. Currently, Dillmann is contesting sports-car races.

“Tom already impressed us with his professionalism in Mexico where he intensely dealt with the team and the approach of the engineers,” explained Marc Gindorf, co-owner of the Venturi racing team. “This will prove to be helpful for him in Paris. We think that he represents our perfect choice for this race.” Team owner Gildo Pallanca Pastor is also convinced about the young french. “ With Tom Dillmann, we choosed a driver who is well experienced  although young of age, nevertheless for Formual E he will count as` Rookie`.

Maro Engel who caused a stir by setting the very fine second-fastest lap time in the qualifying session in Mexico wishes Dillmann a successful race weekend: “I already met Tom in Mexico and there, he blended in perfectly. I am happy that he is the one to replace me in Paris. I definitely will follow the race from the Lausitzring and will be available to support him from there with words and deeds if this should prove to be necessary.”

But a week before Venturi and the rest of the Formula E field will travel to France for round six of the season, they all have to make a stop in Monaco for the home race of Venturi. On 13th May, the Principality at the Côte d’Azur will stage the fifth round of the season. The race will be contested on a shorter version of the racetrack that has been making history as venue of the Monaco GP since 1929.
