Harbour tour in the Big Apple
- Team Venturi to compete in the first ever FIA motor-racing event in New York’s urban area
- Maro Engel and Tom Dillmann highly motivated in the run-up to the double-header in the USA
- Preparations for the 2017 / 2018 season already running flat out
At the end of the 2016 / 2017 calendar, the Venturi Formula E Team stops at North America. On 15th and 16th July, the ‘Big Apple’ represents the penultimate stop on the Formula e calendar. The races will be held in Brooklyn’s harbour, in front of Manhattan’s spectacular skyline and with view of the Statue of Liberty.
“Motor racing in New York – that’s a historic moment,” says team owner Gildo Pallanca Pastor who resides in the east-coast metropolis. “It’s the first FIA motor-racing event in the urban area of New York and it’s a real honour to be a part of it.” Team Venturi used the past weeks to extensively prepare for the forthcoming race meeting and covered a lot of kilometres on the way to doing so. “We are ready to race and highly motivated,” says Pallanca Pastor. “The circuit is virgin soil and every driver has to cope with identical preconditions. But we have got two competitive drivers who are determined to give their very best to deliver on this unique stage.”
“I really look forward to racing in New York,” says Dillmann. “I think a lot of series would love to race in this city – but Formula E has made it.” His team-mate Maro Engel who wants to tie in with his performance in his home race meeting in Monaco is of the same opinion: “We didn’t score as many points in Berlin as we should have and things ran clearly better for me in Monaco. So, it’s my goal to secure top results in both races.”
With its 13 corners, the 1.95-kilometre circuit in Brooklyn’s harbour area that is lapped clockwise represents a massive challenge for the drivers. The track layout at New York’s cruise terminal comprises long straights and fast sections as well as tight corners.
The schedule comprises two races, one on Saturday and one on Sunday and on both days, a one-hour roundup will be brought by Eurosport from 22:3hrs CEST (21:35hrs BST).
Preparations for the fourth Formula E season already are running
And as if the final two stops on the Formula E calendar – following the New York meeting, the series travels to Montreal, Canada, for its season finale on 30th / 31st July – weren’t all the challenges you need, the team also is working flat out on the preparations for the coming season. “We currently are conducting the crash tests and the homologating of the fourth generation of the Formula E racers,” explains Marc Gindorf, co-owner of Team Venturi. “At this point in time we particularly focus on design and development. “
The Formula E team based in Monaco is the motor-racing branch of the automotive supplier Venturi Automobiles. Company owner Gildo Pallanca Pastor can be regarded as visionary when it comes to electric mobility. In 2000 he took over the management of Venturi Paris S.A. and turned the company from a small-batch car manufacturer into a supplier of innovative drive trains. Inter alia, Venturi was responsible for the retrofitting of production cars for the French post to electric drive. Co-owner of Venturi is German entrepreneur and former DTM driver Marc Gindorf.
